Light the City, Saint John Church
Saint John’s young adults will participate in a nighttime street evangelization event on Saturday, August 26. It begins with a vigil Mass at 7 PM, followed by some instructions. Then volunteers will go to 13th Street to invite those passing by to come into the church to light a candle and pray for peace. We need street evangelizers.
But we also need people to sit silently in the church in prayer. When people enter the church and see people praying, it will encourage them to linger and to pray. Even if you are not comfortable on the street inviting people to come into the church, you are still needed to be a prayerful presence in church.
This is a Saint John’s event, but Holy Redeemer parishioners are invited to join in this witness to our faith in Center City.
For more information speak to Father Tom.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Spotlight
Sudan’s armed conflict has caused a humanitarian crisis, threatening millions of lives. About 24.7 million people (half of Sudan’s population) are in need of humanitarian aid and protection. Hunger and malnutrition in Sudan were already at record levels before the conflict erupted – but now, up to 2.5 million additional people in Sudan are expected to slip into hunger because of the ongoing violence, bringing the total number of people facing acute food insecurity to over 19 million. Out of these, over 3 million children are estimated to be acutely malnourished.
CRS and partners continue to work despite the challenges, providing food, emergency health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, medical supplies and more. Please visit www.crs.org for more information and to see how you can help!
