Black and Indian Catholic Collection

Next weekend, September 2-3, our second collection will be for Black and Native American Catholic missions.

Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery

Many Holy Redeemer parishioners have expressed interest in purchasing graves at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, essentially creating a Chinese Catholic section of the cemetery.  On Sunday, September 17 at 2:30 PM, Holy Redeemer parishioners are invited to visit the cemetery, see the section that can be reserved for Chinese Catholics and learn about purchasing cemetery lots. Father Tom and Father Joseph will be present. Refreshments will be served.

Hawaii Wildfire Relief

We raised $1817 to assist the people affected by the wildfires in Maui.  A check has already been sent to the Diocese of Honolulu Catholic Charities.

Light the City, Saint John Church

Saint John’s young adults will participate in a nighttime street evangelization event tomorrow, Saturday, August 26. It begins with a vigil Mass at 7 PM, followed by some instructions. Then volunteers will go to 13th Street to invite those passing by to come into the church to light a candle and pray for peace. We need street evangelizers.

But we also need people to sit silently in the church in prayer.  When people enter the church and see people praying, it will encourage them to linger and to pray.  Even if you are not comfortable on the street inviting people to come into the church, you are still needed to be a prayerful presence in church.

This is a Saint John’s event, but Holy Redeemer parishioners are invited to join in this witness to our faith in Center City.

For more information speak to Father Tom.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Spotlight

Scattered with a few thick trees that provide refreshing shade to teachers and students alike, Al Gabal primary school in West Darfur, Sudan, rests alongside soft hills boasting red soil. Here, CRS built 9 classrooms to support sustainable schooling with funding from The United Nations World Food Programme. Visit www.crs.org for more information and to see how you can help!

“Education cannot be neutral. It is either positive or negative; either it enriches or it impoverishes; either it enables a person to grow or it lessens, even corrupts him. The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful. And this occurs through a rich path made up of many ingredients. This is why there are so many subjects — because development is the result of different elements that act together and stimulate intelligence, knowledge, the emotions, the body, and so on.” ~ Pope Francis
